Board of Trustees
All of New Zealand’s state and state-integrated schools have a board of trustees. The board of trustees is the Crown entity responsible for the governance and the control of the management of the school. Board members are elected as part of Board Elections held in schools every 3 years. Boards are responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration.
The Te Manawa ō Pāpāmoa Establishment Board 2019-2022 (The board that designed and built the kura, employed the Senior Leadership Team and got the kura operationally up and running) handed over the kura to our first Whānau elected BOT after sign off from the Education Review Office (ERO) in September 2022.
Our Mana Whenua
Te Manawa ō Pāpāmoa School sits on the land known as Te Houhou, a sacred and spiritual place of peace for Ngā Potiki Iwi.
The ancestors of Ngā Pōtiki were part of a group with origins from Mataatua waka, which migrated from the eastern Bay of Plenty.
On the death of their leader Rangihouhiri at Maketu, the group – now known as Ngāi Te Rangi – eventually entered and dispersed across what is now the wider Tauranga district.
It was Tamapahore who assumed leadership of the heke (migration) into Tauranga, only to be ousted by his nephew Kotererua.
The aging Tamapahore and his followers were subsequently denied living space on Mauao and so, retreated to Te Rae o Pāpāmoa and Mangatawa.
